Tribal Art Tattoos

Tribal art tattoos have been around for a very long time. It seems that it is a natural instinct for humans to want to decorate their bodies with tattoo designs. Another very old use for tattoos was to show your allegiance or membership to a certain group. The oldest known case of tattooing is on a Bronze age man who died over 5,000 years ago.

Some cultures which still practise tribal art tattoos are the Maori in New Zealand and the Aborigines in Australia. Recently we have seen a cross over of these tribal tattoos in to the main stream culture. It is probably down in part to the intricate patterns and the fact that they are attractive looking pieces of art. But it also may be due to people feeling a connection to these old cultures or wanting to feel a sense of belonging.

A number of celebrities now have tribal art tattoos on their bodies. These include the singer Robbie Williams, ex-boxer Mike Tyson and professional wrestler turned actor Dwayne Johnson (The Rock).
