Tattoo Removal

Tattoos are designed to be permanent but is tattoo removal a possibility? Well, there are number of different methods that can be used to try and remove a tattoo but they are not all effective.
The success of any tattoo removal depends on the method used but other factors such as the size of the tattoo, the position on the body and the type of pigment used are also relevant.
If you visit a doctor to get your tattoo removed they will usually opt for one of three different approaches:
Vaporisation – This method removes the tattoo from the skin of the patient with a carbon dioxide laser. The results are often quite good but a feint trace of the design is usually visible and in some cases this technique can cause scarring.
Dermabrasion – As the name suggests this is an abrasive removal method. The skin is treated with a series of chemicals first to weaken the area. Then the skin is scraped away using a machine. This method can also leave scars.
Laser Treatment – This is generally perceived as the most effective tattoo removal method. A laser is used on the area which targets the pigment of the tattoo and breaks it up without damaging the skin. Usually a series of treatments with a laser are required and although results are often good some colouration may remain.
All of these treatments can be carried out in a single visit or a series of visits, staying in hospital for a period of time is rarely necessary. Another point to consider is that these treatments can be expensive and are rarely covered by medical insurance or government sponsored care.
