Dragon Tattoo

You do not see dragon tattoos every day but there are some really great designs that include dragons. A tattoo depicting a dragon in some form represents the mythological aspects of this mysterious beast. Some people believe that dragons are real and that they actually used to exist until recently. Even though most of us see them as imaginary creatures they are icons of strength and power. Dragons, real or imaginary, are seen as huge and powerful beasts that were able to breathe fire.

In the Chinese culture dragons are usually drawn differently to the way we draw them in the West. They are long and snake-like beasts with many claws. In China they are seen as a strong symbol of mighty power and prosperity. In fact it is considered to be a taboo to disfigure any image in the shape of a dragon.

Some Chinese believe that dragons are the rulers of water and that they can show themselves in river, lakes and waterfalls. The dragon is also a symbol of the Chinese zodiac, one of the twelve animals that relate to the year of birth. Some people choose to get a dragon tattoo because they were born in the year of the dragon. The most recent year of the dragon spanned from the 5th February 2000 to the 23rd of January 2001.
