Cross Tattoos

There are many different types of cross tattoo designs and they are generally symbolic of a type of religion. The cross symbol is one of the earliest recorded shapes used and many religions have adopted it as their symbol. You are probably aware of the Christian cross where the bottom point is longer than the other three. On the Greek cross all the points are the same length so it resembles a plus sign.
The ankh is a cross symbol used in ancient Egyptian religion and depicts life. It is similar to the Christian cross but the top point is in a loop. Another well known cross is the Celtic cross from Europe and especially Ireland. It again is similar to the Christian cross but it has a circle encompassing the center of the cross.
Many people who have a cross shaped tattoo chose the design for religious reasons. In a similar fashion to the way people wear a cross pendant around their neck. Having the cross tattooed on is, for some, a sign of eternal devotion to their religion and a strong showing of faith.
