Who Invented The First Game Console

If you are wondering "Who invented the first game console?" then here is your answer - Ralph Baer. He invented the Odyssey, a games console that came out in 1972 from Magnavox. As you can imagine it was quite a basic machine but it had the 1 thing that every good console needs - a great game. Pong was a simple but addictive game for 2 players involving 2 paddles and a ball.

Technology has moved on a fair bit since the 70's and so have game consoles. One man who helped the console industry to develop is Shigeru Miyamoto who is often referred to as the father of modern video gaming. He was a game designer behind some of the most popular game series of the last 20 years. These titles included Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, Wave Race and Pikmin video game series all for a range of Nintendo game consoles.

Miyamoto became the first member ever to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame. This happened in 1998 and it was an award that highlighted his lifetime achievement and the massive effect he had on the video game industry.

He was well known in Nintendo for be a perfectionist when it came to games. He would often delay the release of new titles because he thought they needed more work. He used to say that a bad game is bad forever but a delayed game can become a great game.
